Uri Caine - Interview

Extract from the interview released by Uri Caine on 16/11 / 09
The full interview was broadcast Sunday, November 22 during Sunday by appointment radio " @ Angels Demons "

Uri, do you think interpret traditional Jewish music, playing with the mentality today, as it does on the album " Secrets " who sees you in a quartet with Mark Feldman, Greg Cohen, Joey Baron , is a way to reconsider the ancient musical structures and, paritre from this, build new languages?
"Many of the songs in 'Secrets' as' Z'Chor Hashem' or 'Nigun''Lubavitchers are part of my earliest memories. My family used to play and sing these songs and others on Friday evening, consumed as musicians who play jazz standards by George Gershwin or Cole Porter. It was a great challenge to play this music because although structurally simple to be able to improvise you have to force certain habits that are learned in jazz. "

Improvisation is intuition, invention or interaction?
"All these things together. Improvising means to keep alive the attention, play what you would not have waited to play, expect the unexpected. Above all, cultivate the exchange relationship with oneself and with others. I mean, the dialogue between musicians should be developed, as it is necessary that everyone works with their potential to enhance and refine it. It is essential to practice and keep on going, not to be trapped in the cold perfectionism, preserving the spontaneity.

Great musicians like John Coltrane knew a lot of work on their technique and at the same time, they kept alive the ability to capture the moment that creates impromptu improvisation. This is not to stay in his room playing scales all the time but to work with others, everyone feels connected. There is a strong connection that unites all types of music and, consequently, all the musicians. "

Joey Baron - Interview

Extract from the interview released by Joey Baron on 11/16/2009
The full interview was broadcast Sunday, November 22,
radio Sunday during the appointment with " @ Angels Demons .

Joey, if I were giving advice to a guy who is about to start playing drums, what would you say?
"I would say: find a teacher who gives you the basic rudiments of the instrument. Everything else depends on you, because nobody can teach you to play and have a relationship with the music. You just go out and play . At whatever level you are, no matter who asks you to play, always answer yes. You learn from every experience. Music is an art that relies on making a living with others. Not learn anything standing in a classroom or reading books on music theory. You will learn more and only playing, and with more good people than with people less clever than you.
Again, my suggestion is this: always say yes.
and distance itself from those who tell you how you should play because, at best, can only teach you to become the bad copy of someone else, wasting his and your time. No one is really interested to hear two or more people playing the same way, although many are convinced of the contrary. It is better to experience the hard way. Playing, listening to others, especially listening to yourself. Total salary as a musician: this will teach you more than any course. If someone will say, play me a slow back beat and you do not know what the hell it will give you to do and learn by practice. That's how I learned and I've gained my individuality as an artist. It is the basic process. Every musician studying the songs he loves and draws inspiration from them, but then must go his own way, without imitating any other, without becoming a clone of who knows whom. This risk is avoided playing with others, regardless of context: the cellar, the school gym, the wedding party or concert hall.
is how it takes shape your personal style, that makes you instantly recognizable. "

STOLAS: Masada Quintet Live - Teatro Manzoni (Milano)

Milan, November 17, 2009
An excellent concert, a performance exciting band in a state of grace.
The Masada Quintet has lost his way the sax Joe Lovano (injured shoulder, out of the game for a year) but gained to Chris Potter . Issued without a network between the roughness of the rhythmic and uplifting repertoire of pitfalls John Zorn , after an uncertain start to the Potter (in his first live with galaxy Masada) has been unleashed, showed sapersela draw very well. Essential support and guidance of Dave Douglas (trumpet), Uri Caine (piano), Greg Cohen (bass), Joey Baron (drums). In the early part of the exhibition Douglas has voluntarily assumed the role of temporary leader , then return to normal when the balance of expression / communication between the five (which in fact are all leaders) and especially the involvement Potter has been successfully achieved.
An hour and a half hours of live music, based on the nine compositions " STOLAS: Book of Angels, Vol 12 "which, in the course of the applauded evening at the Teatro Manzoni in Milan, have been enriched by long and inspired improvisations.
Great moments of interplay between Uri Caine and the brilliant acrobatic Joey Baron, close and casual, to provoke each other with great humor.
be noted moments high the concert, joined in the songs Psisya, Tagriel, Tashriel and Haamiah .

Jewish Culture and jazz music free from limits or brakes intellectuals, mixed with a passion for music, this is the Masada Book Two . And now we do a little 'accounts: Masada Book Two-Book of Angels consists 300 compositions written by the prolific John Zorn and methodical in a few months in 2004, after the celebrations for the 10 years of experience Masada (Book One). Since 2005 some of these songs came to life, that was played / arranged / performed by numerous musicians and ensembles, as Jamie Saft Trio, Medeski Martin & Wood, Cracow Klezmer Band, Bar Kohkba Sextet, Masada String Trio, Koby Israelite, Erik Friedlander , Mark Feldman, Sylvie Courvoisier . STOLAS, seen / heard live November 16, 2009, the protagonist of the 12th volume, is an angel, or rather it was , like all the 'hosts' series Book of Angels: it is not in fact of angels with halos and white dress, but the fallen angels, creatures that exist between the darkness. STOLAS, in particular, is one of the great principles of hell, commands 26 legions of demons, has expertise in astronomy and is very familiar with herbs, precious stones and poisonous plants. In the Dictionnaire Infernal the painter paints Collin De Plancy Stolas as a long-legged owl and disproportionate.
who want to learn more about these angels / demons that both fascinate and stimulate John Zorn (mysterious and esoteric scholar of Judaism) can spend their evenings reading by candlelight in the dark pages of 'The Grand Grimoire' .

particularly alarming: the adjuvant "owner" MF59: oily derivative of a product designed for the Gulf War, with a capacity of highly destructive to the human body. Some health experts argue that this principle should be included in the category of drug or biological weapons. The legislation requires the use of MF59 to be very limited in experimental animals and no provision for its use on humans (but we do know: the drug companies are above the law). Many immunologists argue that even a microscopic dose of a few molecules of adjuvant, and injected into the human body, can cause severe and permanent disorders of the immune system. The FDA has not yet approved the use of any vaccine in MF59. Yet we find this adjuvant "Focetria" distributed and administered in Italy right now. That said ... DO NOT VACCINATEVI!
